K-Gr 2 A young boy runs away from home to search for a "lift," or a ride. He discovers that a brook is "soft and swift" but also quite cold. A boat is swift, too, but proves to be tipsy. A trout, a snail, the rain, etc., provide unusual rides but none are completely satisfactory until he decides, at last, that the lift he really needs is the "strong and swift" one he finds in his father's arms.
